"Christmas is coming, the geese are getting fat ..." My husband looked at me like I was nuts when I played this song today. He had no idea what it was ... Do you remember it???
Maybe I'm being too "girly" right now or just showing my age, but I like to have fun while working and helping is my "thing" especially at Christmas time! I learned this "Christmas Is Coming" rhyme as a toddler and it stuck with me all of these years. I sang it to my children and now I am writing it out as a direct point for you.

Christmas is a charitable time!
The point of that "Christmas is Coming" rhyme was to teach children that while some could afford to buy a goose and fatten it up for Christmas dinner, others could not and Christmas is a charitable time to give according to your means "if you have no penny, a ha'penny will do. If you have no ha'penny, then God bless you!". It has always been a reminder to me to give when I can and reminder what was given to me.
In fact, there were a few times in my life when I really needed help at this time of year.
I was a single mother working two jobs, going to college and paying for all of my kids needs with no child support. Christmas charity came to me by God's grace and the generosity of others. Once I won a radio station contest and they bought all of the christmas presents on my children's wish list just a few days before Christmas. Another time an organization helped even though I did not apply for the help. Once I was trying to buy a cheap christmas tree off of Craigslist and responded to a post for a free tree from a woman in the neighboring community. On the day we picked up the tree she asked for our address because she worked as a housekeeper for a philanthropist that wanted to send us a Christmas gift. I was freaked out at first (LOL), but she seemed so genuine that I gave her our address. We ended up receiving an extremely generous contribution that paid for some household bills, food and put gifts under the tree. Little did he know how much that meant to us that year because I could breath the following month at not having to spend my bill money on Christmas. I would love to do the same for a family, so please read on.
